Brunello Cucinelli expands retail presence in Shanghai with opening of Casa Cucinelli
Brunello Cucinelli is consolidating its strategic presence in China with the inauguration of Casa Cucinelli in Shanghai. The space is located within Cao Zhai, a historic 1927 residence designed by architect Gu Daosheng. The venue combines retail spaces dedicated to menswear and womenswear collections with areas reserved for hospitality and bespoke client services. The group emphasised that the objective of the project is to create a place "where the inspiration born from the concept of home and Italian craftsmanship resonates with Chinese culture, and Shanghai in particular, through a shared sensibility for beauty, hospitality and human relations".
Space is located inside historic Cao Zhai residence and spans three levels
The property spans three levels, integrating a winter garden inspired by the traditional Shikumen courtyards of the Chinese metropolis. The restoration project has preserved the original structural elements of the building, including mosaics, parquet flooring, stained-glass windows and Art Deco decorative features.
The ground floor houses the reception areas: a library with over 500 volumes of Western and Chinese non-fiction and literature, private meeting rooms and spaces dedicated to dining services. The first and second floors host the womenswear and menswear collections respectively, alongside made-to-measure services: Sartoria Solomeo for the menswear line and Solomeo Atelier for presentations dedicated to female clients. The top of the building is crowned by a domed pavilion overlooking the surrounding skyline.
The interior design uses natural materials and artisanal finishes to preserve material continuity with the existing architecture. These include Botticino marble; wood flooring; brass inserts; clay; jute; and textile and leather wall coverings.
In recent days, the luxury label also presented the film about the life of founder Brunello Cucinelli, "The Gracious visionary", in Shanghai and Hong Kong on October 24.
