Los Angeles – After submitting plans for the Caruso Carlsbad Shopping Center, the project has hit a road bump.

According to Apparel News, on October 27 opponents of the project presented a petition to delay the retail center. The petition was verified by San Diego County’s Registrar of Voters, and the project is now up for a vote by Carlsbad’s residents. The opposition comes from a group of residents called Citizens for North County. According to Apparel News, the group released comments stating that Caruso Affiliated mounted a multi-million-dollar campaign to influence Carlsbad voters. Due to the petition, the city’s council will discuss the project next week on November 3.

Caruso Affiliated is a real estate development company that develops properties and shopping centers. Existing developments by Caruso Affiliated include The Grove, The Lakes at Thousand Oaks, The Americana at Brand, The Promenade at Westlake, and more. The company’s newest developments include the Carlsbad center, The Masonic Temple, and Palisades Village.
