Dreams on Air and Accessories Council partner
Apr 17, 2019
Dreams on Air, the concept that's part retail store and part fashion consulting platform, has partnered with the Accessories Council, a New York-based non-profit organization whose mission is to stimulate global consumer awareness and demand for fashion accessory products. Several of their partners include Safilo, Bloomingdale's, and Swarovski. The organization can name more than 300 accessories designers as their members.
Dreams on Air helps emerging, independent designers fill in the gaps in their business that they might be missing. Their range of services include PR, wholesale, line sheet photography, wholesale prep, and marketing. The company's 2400-square-foot space gives designers the opportunity to sell at their store in SoHo in the boutique district among prime retail traffic.
Founded by Latvian fashion designer Alise Trautmane and branding expert Sai Kong, the company also offers services for stylists, editors, and bloggers to pull product for shoots.
“It was my background as an independent and emerging fashion designer that contributed to the idea of a shared business model,” said Trautmane in an interview with the Accessories Council. “Having launched my own label with a store in London, showrooms in Moscow and London, plus very expensive PR firm, I almost went bankrupt. I wouldn’t advise any new brand to take that journey.”
Trautmane and Kong do a mini audit of each brand to determine their needs, so they can figure out what services they need moving forward. Accessories comprise about 30 to 35 percent of the mix, which skews higher than the industry average. That commitment is seen with wall shelves of handbags with price points ranging from 300 to 3000 dollars and fine jewelry with price points ranging from 2000 to 3000 dollars.
Dreams on Air will kick off the collaboration by hosting a pop-up with select Accessories Council member designers from May 15 to May 19.
