Retail

Despite Las Vegas’ battered tourist economy, Fred Segal is still opting to open a new retail concept store in the city. The Los Angeles-based retailer will open a retail project featuring men’s and women’s apparel and accessories with a shop-in-shop concept. The new store will open at the Resorts World Property, which is set to open this summer.

In 2019, Fred Segal was acquired by Global Icons. The opening of a Malibu store soon followed the acquisition, and now the parent company is looking at expanding the company nationally. However, it has closed several stores, including three locations in Switzerland and one in Malaysia, bringing their store count from nine to five.

The new store opening at Resorts World Property is considered a collaboration and not a traditional retail lease. Despite Las Vegas’ immense decline in tourist traffic, Fred Segal is thinking longterm, as the city is one of the United States most prominent tourist destinations. The new resort will feature 70,000 square feet of retail space, with announcements for other brands slated to open stores there to follow. Fred Segal will operate separate men’s and women’s stores, with both locations expected to offer exclusive products.

Las Vegas is desperately hoping that this year their tourism numbers start to rebound. In 2020, the city saw only 19 million tourists compared to 43 million in 2019. The decline in tourism has led to massive store closures resulting in a massive blow to Las Vegas’ economy.
