Japanese luxury kimono label Hiromi Asai has arrived at Flying Solo NYC, a fashion collective for international and independent designers. Hiromi Asai has participated in New York Fashion Week in the past, becoming the first kimono label to ever show at NYFW. Last year, Hiromi Asai showed as part of Flying Solo's collective of designers during New York Fashion Week.
The brand has been gaining international menswear traction having shown at Pitti Uomo and other menswear trade shows over the past several years. Their appearance at Flying Solo NYC during New York Fashion Week was met with such a favorable public response, the brand decided to sell the collection continuously at the store, beginning this month. In addition, the brand will provide collection samples to stylists and editors at the show room of Flying Solo, The Copper Room.
For the spring/summer 2019 collection, the brand created a collection of shirts and jackets, made of the finest Kimono cotton textile, Ise Momen. Ise Momen has a more-than-350-year history, woven by 100-year-old looms. The brand asked this workshop to weave premium cotton textiles for the collection with unique but modern patterns. All these clothes were tailored by Sanyo Industry Inc. and Fashion Kobo Kuroishi in Japan. Subsequently, Hiromi Asai is planning to present various men's collection including jackets, suits, vests, shirts, pants and ties, all made of various Kimono textiles, woven and dyed at workshops all over Japan.
The brand will showcase its next menswear collection on the runway during both New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week with Flying Solo NYC in September and October of this year.
