Classic, minimalist brand Equipment has just went international with a new flagship popping up in Japan. The label planted its roots with a fresh flagship in Tokyo, its first brick-and-mortar in Asia.

So far the company has opened three stores in America, with its Asia store acting as its first venture into global retail. The brand’s operating stores launched in major cities including Soho, Los Angeles and Century City. After celebrating the brand’s 40th anniversary, the new physical store marks a landmark for Equipment. The store will house the brand’s silk collection, soft cashmere pullovers, knitwear, and more. The flagship also matches the brand’s aesthetic including clean, modern lines and simple furniture. The Tokyo flagship just opened in the main city, with white floors and walls and wooden, rustic fixtures.

The brand launched originally in 1976 by Christian Restoin. The innovative menswear brand grew popular due to its elegant, high-quality apparel. After rebranding in Spring 2010 from Serge Azria, the contemporary brand ultimately flourished in luxury wear. With this new retail investment, the brand may be testing the waters of its product overseas. As the store is new, only time will tell how the new Tokyo flagship fares.
