Los Angeles - SoCal brands are often known for their surf-influenced apparel and Lightning Bolt is no different. The lifestyle beach brand has housed its apparel boutique on Pacific Avenue for over 20 years. However, the brand has decided to close its doors in Venice at the end of the month.

Starting September 30, the Venice-based Lightning Bolt store will be closed. The reasoning for the closure is nothing personal or “romantic,” the brand told Racked LA. The company lose their North American license and is now opting to shutter its location. The brand was sold 20 years ago when it opened its flagship on Pacific Avenue. Since then, the brand has sold surfboards, apparel, beach clothing, footwear, and more. Swimwear for the brand ranges in price from approximately 60 to 90 dollars. The brand will be hosting a closure sale until the end of the month when the boutique will close for good.

Lighting Bolt was founded by Gerry Lopez and Jack Shipley in 1971. Legendary surfer Lopez paired up with Shipley in order to start the Hawaii-based brand. Combining their love of surf with the infusion of style from the 1970’s, the brand emerged. Lightning Bolt currently offers swimwear, menswear, womenswear, footwear, and more. The lifestyle brand then transferred to the West Coast when it was sold by its founders over two decades ago. The brand is known based in Venice with 51-200 employees.
