Louis Vuitton has returned to New York’s Westside mall, Hudson Yards, as the Shops & Restaurants are undergoing a series of changes. When Hudson Yards was originally planned, Neiman Marcus was leading the retail charge as an anchor to the mall and marking their first store opening in New York City. In addition, tourist dollars were expected to keep the mall flush with cash.

Since then, Neiman Marcus has pulled out as an anchor, and spaces inside the Shops & Restaurants are now converting to office space. The pandemic is still curbing numbers on international travel and tourists, stifling what will hopefully eventually be stronger shopping numbers for the mall.

All hope has not been given up on Hudson Yards, though. Several restaurants are planning to move into the space, and the developer of Hudson Yards says they have news regarding a major office tenant to be released soon.

While Hudson Yards was originally planned to be a luxury mall home to brands like Chanel, Dior, and Fendi, they have since expanded their price point to include more affordable retailers as well as food offerings. The complex currently has 390,000 square feet of leasable space. The mall is reportedly 92 percent leased, which is a solid figure given how malls have struggled to recover since the pandemic.

Louis Vuitton’s new shop is located next to comparable luxury brands including Stuart Weitzman, Patek Philippe, Fendi, and Kenzo. Their new space was previously occupied by The Conservatory, which moved to a small space in the mall in proximity to Tiffany & Co.

The new Louis Vuitton shop carries menswear, womenswear, accessories, fragrances, jewelry, leather good, shoes, and watches. Capsule collections, including Nigo and 2054, are expected to be included in the offerings eventually.
