Los Angeles – Macy’s downtown store has hit a landmark this weekend. On Saturday, the department store will honor its Los Angeles flagship due to its renovations and transformations to its space.

The space in total encompasses 266,000 square feet and has undergone numerous changes by developer Ratkovic Co.’s. The developer essentially built the flagship from nothing. “We basically started from scratch,” Michael Ellmann, district vice president at Macy’s Inc., told WWD. The interior remodel has taken a lot of work to bring to fruition. According to Ellmann, the renovations are “more than just paint and tile.” This includes an expansion of space totaling 22,000 square feet. The new space paves the way for more women’s apparel as well as Macy’s shoe departments. The company has also upped their game in brands that they sell including high-end brands such as Michael Kors and Coach.

Transformations to the store also include alterations from the surrounding retail spots of downtown. Hip new eateries and high fashion retailers have join downtown’s list making the sub-city and up-and-coming fashion area. The store itself will also be receiving a food concept space in May, according to the trade publication.

The Macy’s celebration of its downtown space will take place this Saturday, November 28.
