Macy’s is undergoing some new renovations. The department store chain is putting into motion plans of revamping their location at the Irvine Spectrum shopping plaza.

The renovations for the Irvine location include parking garage changes and touch-ups in the store’s aesthetics. In total, Developer Irvine Co., the store’s developer, will put about 150 million dollars into the improvements for the 140,000 square foot store. Besides improving the store, the revamp will include two new buildings with new tenants for the Irvine Spectrum center.

The store’s renovation is most likely due to the company’s revamping business strategy. The plan includes focusing on smaller, better performing locations to improve business and sales. Last year, Macy’s closed approximately 14 stores due to this new strategy. The store closures affected approximately 2,200 employees. For this year, the 770-unit department chain plans to shutter 40 stores this year, as reported by WWD. By closing these stores and focusing on improving existing ones, Macy’s seems to be sticking to their original business plan from 2015.
