Omicron has begun affecting retail store hours. With New York COVID-19 hospitalization rates alone topping 10,000 for the first time in 20 months, Macy’s has decided to shorten store hours on some days for all stores for the rest of January. The news was reported by Reuters.

Store hours will be reduced to 11 am to 8 pm from Monday to Thursday, compared with 10 am to 9 pm, but will remain the same from Friday to Sunday. Overall, the United States reported a million new coronavirus infections on Monday with Omicron accounting for 95.4 percent of all cases.

While retail was on a steadfast recovery after the 2020 lockdowns, omicron is causing a hiccup in that turnaround. Some stores temporarily closed and instituted capacity restrictions. Apple recently closed all their New York City stores to shoppers due to the Omicron surge.
