Mud Jeans relaunch finalised: N5 Holding becomes new owner
Sustainable denim brand Mud Jeans is relaunching under N5 Holding, the investment company of Nick de Ronde Bresser. The new owner, who previously bought the bankrupt Van Lier, is paying a total of 255,000 euros for the acquisition. This was revealed in the bankruptcy report published on Monday.
Mud Jeans was forced to file for its own bankruptcy at the beginning of August because its accumulated financial debt was too heavy. Although the team fought for a solution for months, the pressure from these old debts ultimately proved too great. The administrator then began searching for acquisition candidates, writing to 41 parties. Of these, 12 showed interest and three submitted a bid. N5 Holding emerged as the highest bidder, and a final agreement was reached in September.
Breakdown of the acquisition sum
For the relaunch, the investor is paying over a quarter of a million euros. This amount is comprised of 120,000 euros for the brand rights and 75,000 euros for the stock. The remaining 60,000 euros is equally divided between the domain names and the goodwill of the brand, which was founded in 2012. The company is now reaping the first rewards of the acquisition: the webshop is back online, featuring the new tagline “Mud is back, built better”.
Departure of CEO Dion Vijgeboom
The relaunch does, however, mark the end of an era for chief executive officer Dion Vijgeboom. He was involved with the brand for a total of 12 years, the last few months as CEO. In a post on LinkedIn, Vijgeboom confirmed his departure and thanked his colleagues and partners. He expressed his hope that the new owner will continue Mud Jeans' circular mission. In recent years, the brand has gained international recognition for its use of recycled cotton and innovative initiatives such as its leasing concept and take-back programmes.
