Nike has found some new roots in New York City. The Beaverton, Oregon-based company has moved its New York City headquarters to 855 6th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

The new 150,000-square-foot space will be in a central location between its New York City stores. Nike counts New York locations in the Upper East Side, Midtown, Flatiron, SoHo, Flatbush and Brooklyn.

The new headquarters features an open-plan workspace, with a ceiling made from recycled materials, and houses a 4000-square-foot basketball court. The court will be open to employees, high school teams, community partners and local leagues.

The space is meant to help attract more customers, and is part of their new Consumer Direct Offense that was announced in June.

Nike has been taking new cost-cutting measures toward streamlining business. Last month, they slashed 1400 jobs in an effort to offer products to consumers faster. New York city is essential to the brand's continued business growth, so efforts to keep customers happy there will continue to be made.

It is one of the 12 cities expected to account for 80 percent of Nike's growth by 2020. The other 11 include Los Angeles, Mexico City, London, Milan, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul and Tokyo.
