Los Angeles - Oak NYC has had a tough time with American Apparel over the last year. After a tumultuous battle with the Los Angeles-based retailer, Oak’s founders are still working towards a plan to save their brand.

In December 2015, Oak attempted to first buy back their brand. The company has previously agreed to shutter four of its stores, due to American Apparel’s bankruptcy filing. However, after news of this got around to Oak’s founders Jeff Madalena and Louis Terline, the two paired up to retrieve their brand. They first offered American Apparel a 600,000 dollar bid that was rejected. At the end of the month, the trendy retailer finally agreed to Oak’s final offer to buy back the brand. The amount was not disclosed to the public.

Since then, Madalena and Terline have been working to rebuild the Oak name. The company has been focusing on growing the company’s web presence, according to WWD, as well as expanding their wholesale business. Currently, retail growth is also being weighed as part of their future plans, although no concrete decisions are confirmed.
