A new retail concept has launched in Boston’s Seaport district. The Current is a “pop-up village” which is set to host a different collection of retailers on a rotating basis. Featured brands will be chosen according to a theme that changes periodically.

Launched yesterday with the theme “She-Village”, The Current now presents nine local fashion and home decor brands founded by women, namely: Booty by Brabants, Brass, Bref, Cynthia Rowley, Havenly, Margaux, Monica + Andy, Orly Khon Floral, and The Giving Keys.

”The Current provides a great way for retail entrepreneurs and small businesses to set up shop in the Seaport. We are thrilled to welcome these nine women-owned small businesses to the neighborhood”, said John Barros, Chief of Economic Development for the City of Boston, in a statement.

The women-owned pop-up stores are set to run until January 4, 2019, when they give way to a new set of retailers. The next theme will be announced in the coming months.

Operated by WS Development and designed by architecture firm nArchitects, The Current was inspired by the Tiny House Movement, which advocates downsizing the space one lives in. The structures which host the pop-up stores are, therefore, small, so that more space can be allocated to green areas.
