Rent the Runway has become a popular way for consumers to get their hands on designer dresses they see at Fashion Week, albeit only for a few days. The company recently posted revenues of 100 million dollars, proving they are successful.

To continue providing excellent customer service to grow their business, they have announced same-day delivery service for New York City for customers who book by noon.

“Our customers’ entire lives are on-demand,” said CEO Jennifer Hyman to Racked. “They’re not planning anything in advance.”

Although other luxury retailers, like Net-a-Porter, offer same-day delivery service for New York, those companies follow a very different business model from Rent the Runway. Obviously referring to the fact that other retailers neither expect or want customers to give the clothes back.

However, Rent the Runway's new strategy is to cut into some of fast-fashion's market share. Those consumers who might rush to somewhere like Zara after work to get an emergency day-of dress can now get something high-end at Rent the Runway.

The biggest competitor for almost all retailers nowadays is Amazon. Their prime subscription same-day delivery service is a hindrance for retailers who are having trouble competing with the desire for immediate demand. By offering same-day delivery, Rent the Runway stands to cut into some of Amazon's market share as well.

The company hopes to expand the service to other major cities including D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
