Independent business owners and salesman will have a new way to operate their brick-and-mortar stores with Shopify’s latest hardware launch. The e-commerce software company has launched its new Tap & Chip Reader along with a Dock and Stand for business owners to use in their physical retail stores.

According to an announcement from the brand at its brick-and-mortar location in downtown Los Angeles, this new chip reader has been ergonomically designed to provide the most comfort for any business’s consumers. Additionally, the new Dock has a detachable feature, allows salespeople to move throughout their shops at ease with customers, giving everyone a seamless shopping process.

“Our goal for this launch is to help business owners create their best checkout experience,” said Satish Kanwar, Shopify’s vice president of product in an email to FashionUnited. “We know that retail is one of Shopify’s fastest-growing channels, and over 100,000 retailers used Shopify’s POS software to sell in-person in 2018.” With the new launch of the Tap and Chip reader, Shopify is moving forward with the intention of expanding into more physical retailers, rather than simply staying online.

“I don’t have a physical store just yet, but I do a lot of pop-up shops,” said Areial Lomack, owner and founder of Los Angeles footwear brand Twelve AM to FashionUnited. “I’m happy to see that they’re always growing and developing their products for us so we can be better merchants.”

The new Tap & Chip Reader, Dock and Stand are available in a kit from Shopify for 229 USD, or separately for 49 USD, 39 USD and 149 USD, respectively.
