Talley NYC’s goes bi-coastal with Los Angeles pop-up

Talley NYC’s opening event took place Thursday, March 26 in Silverlake. The launch party was set at the pop-up shop’s new location 3903 Sunset Blvd.

Known for their premium denimwear, the store reflects its product. With clear, angular windows and a rustic vibe, the former laundromat turned out to be a prime location for the Talley NYC pop-up shop. Inside the store are racks of jeans aligned from previous seasons, current collections, and original prototypes. So far 250-300 jean styles have been made; all are correspondingly numbered with the digits embedded into the label of the denim.

“It’s the first tangible presence for the brand,” said Ben Talley Smith, founder of Talley NYC. The urban vibe of the shop resembles the product down to the copper piping complementing the copper interior of the denim. “How you present [your product] is a huge thing,” said Smith. The label, which started just last November, has only been available online up until now. The concept of the denim is that it takes a look at how each piece of denim is made.

“Every jean takes 10 to 14 days to be made, and we send an email every two to three days about which process it’s in at the moment whether it be cutting or design,” said Smith. Living a bi-coastal lifestyle, Smith does most of the designing in New York. All of the jeans are made locally in Los Angeles by a single person versus the factory alternative of having multiple people each work on one pair of jeans.

Smith’s expectation of the shop is to bring exposure for the label in Los Angeles and otherwise. Although so far the online retailer hasn’t had any brick-and-mortars stores, it’s not a far off possibility. “I wouldn’t rule it out,” said Smith, “the idea is to try the pop-ups and see how it goes from there.”

Each jean is made-to-order by Talley NYC, so the pop-up shop serves as a more traditional shopping experience in which potential customers can try on their clothes before purchasing. The pop-up will be open daily until March 31.
