Title of Work opens first ever retail store in NYC

High-end menswear accessories label Title of Work opened its first ever brick and mortar location in New York City’s Lower East Side earlier this week. Founded in 2011 by artist and experienced fashion designer Jonathan meizler, Title of Work blends artistic concepts with luxury men’s accessories including neckties, pocket squares, scarves, bracelets, cufflinks, wallets, lapel pins and socks.

Since the brand’s beginning, Title of Work has retailed through its own ecommerce site and through various retail partners including Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom and Harvey Nichols. With previous experience working with ready-to-wear and couture collections across menswear and womenswear, Meizler is already familiar with operating a brick-and-mortar flagship.

Earlier this year, Title of Work participated in the CFDA’s Retail Lab at Cadillac House in new York City, an experience that allowed Meizler to experiment with Title of Work in a physical retail space and gauge consumer reactions.

The new flagship is located at 57 Orchard Street, a location that speaks to Title of Work’s brand mission and DNA. The neighborhood was once a part of the city’s original garment district, and the exact location used to be the personal home of graffiti and conceptual artist Richard Hambleton. The artist was a contemporary of Warhol and Basquiat and had lived at the space in the 1970s and 1980s. Title of Work’s press release tells of a rumor that Hambleton would sleep in a coffin on the building’s second floor when he lived in the space. “The space maintains an ever-present pulse of creativity that is reflected in its history,” the release states.

“The opening of our flagship store and atelier is a nod to the rich history of handmade craftsmanship of the neighborhood, and its melting pot of diversity is often reflected in many of the themes of our collections,” Meizler said in a statement.
