Retail

East Coast fans of Toms can finally celebrate, because the casual shoe chain has finally opened a shop in New York City. Their new location will be located on 264 Elizabeth Street right in the heart of Soho, a prime shopping location. It won’t be your ordinary retail store either.

The store boasts a coffee shop that will be serving none other than Toms Roasting Co. brand, respectfully. They will also be serving baked goods from One Girl Cookie and the posh and iconic Soho restaurant Balthazar. Even if that isn’t enough to at least get you to check out the fabulous new store, they also have a community lending library and an outdoor patio with a fireplace so you can relax with your borrowed book, and hopefully your new Toms purchase.

Toms is leaving no stone unturned with this new store either, because they will also be launching their new collection of handbags at the store which is sure to bring out customers in droves. Toms hasn’t forgotten what put them on the map, however. The company is staying true to its “one for one” mission, so for every purse that is purchased a safe birth is ensured for a woman and baby in need. Toms became known for their “one for one” mission with their shoes where for every pair of shoes bought a pair was sent to a child in need.

Toms' one for one strategy has clearly worked, because the company is only moving toward growth. In an interview with Footwear News, Toms founder Blake Mycoskie was quoted saying, “Women are buying more fashion from Toms, so there are a lot of growth opportunities going into spring ’15. The men’s business is starting to take off — we’ve always had about 10 percent to 12 percent men’s product. Our brogue and lace-up categories and chukka boots [allow] us to see a lot of new accounts. We are doing a fashion sneaker. The customer knows and expects all of these things from us, so we’re playing a little more into trends. And we are really seeing volume.”

A lot more fashion can be expected from Toms in the future, gone are the days when it was just a socially conscious shoe company for a cause, now they are giving you fashion while still managing to save the world one apparel item bought at a time. Whoever said fashion couldn’t change the world needed to take a good look at Toms. Soho welcomes Toms, and given their commitment to more great fashion items and social justice the company is sure to bring plenty of shopping traffic to Elizabeth Street.
