Italian legwear brand Oroblù, owned by CSP International Fashion Group (CSP), has collaborated with The Lycra Company to introduce a bio-derived line of tights specifically designed to be worn with sneakers. Utilizing the new Lycra EcoMade fiber, derived from industrial corn, this launch aims to establish a new standard for low-environmental impact legwear within the fashion industry.
The Lycra EcoMade fiber is produced using a specific variety of corn cultivated for industrial use. The manufacturing process involves the fermentation of glucose extracted from corn starch to create a primary plant-based ingredient. This renewable component replaces the fossil-based materials traditionally used in high-performance elastane fibers. According to the company, the resulting material contains 70 percent renewable content while maintaining the elasticity, comfort and durability associated with the brand’s standards.
“Working side by side with partners like CSP and Oroblù allows us to fully enhance the supply chain and accelerate the market launch of innovative solutions like the new bio-derived Lycra EcoMade fiber,” said The Lycra Company vice president EMEA and South Asia, Alistair Williamson. “The result is a product that combines performance and environmental responsibility, while maintaining the comfort, freedom of movement and quality expected by consumers.”
Product design and availability
The product development focused on leveraging the performance of the new fiber to create a generation of tights suited for the growing sneaker trend. The design features a reinforced knit in the foot area to provide increased resistance against shoe friction and ensure a comfortable fit.
Carlo Bertoni, chief executive officer of CSP, stated that the collaboration aligns with the group's broader sustainability goals. “Our concrete and evolving sustainability path is documented by periodic reports on our sustainable and constant commitments in the choice of materials with low environmental impact, increasingly natural and less and less of fossil origin,” said Bertoni.
The new ‘bio-sneakers’ tights are scheduled to launch on the Oroblù e-commerce platform at the end of November 2025. This initial release targets consumers prioritizing sustainable innovation. A wider retail rollout in physical stores is planned for September 2026.
Both the polyamide and elastane components of the tights are derived from corn. The company has also applied sustainable practices to the packaging, which utilizes a recycled plastic bag and an FSC-certified recycled paper case.
