Director, Internal Communications

Overview

Foot Locker is seeking a strategic Director of Internal Communications to lead company-wide communication that inspires, informs, and connects our global workforce. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive internal communication strategy that strengthens Foot Lockers culture, aligns employees with business goals, and enhances the overall employee experience. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller, an innovative communicator, and a collaborative leader with a passion for building an engaged and motivated workforce. 


Responsibilities

Strategic Communication & Leadership 

  • Develop and implement an internal communications and engagement strategy that aligns with Foot Lockers mission, vision, values, and business goals. 
  • Partner with senior leadership, HR, and corporate communications to ensure clear, consistent, and impactful messaging across all levels of the organization. 
  • Lead crisis communications for internal channels, ensuring employees receive timely and transparent updates. 
  • Act as a strategic advisor to executives, helping shape leadership messaging and employee touchpoints. 
  • Lead and coach internal comms team to fuel growth and provide development opportunities 

Culture Building 

  • Lead internal campaigns and events that celebrate employee contributions and strengthen company culture. 
  • Leverage storytelling and internal brand-building (tied to sneaker culture) to create a strong sense of belonging and purpose among employees. 

Content Development & Messaging 

  • Craft compelling content for a variety of internal channels, including executive messages, email communications, intranet updates, and town halls. 
  • Ensure internal messaging reflects Foot Lockers brand voice and commitment to community and sneaker culture 
  • Support the CEO and leadership team with internal speeches, presentations, and announcements. 
  • Proactively manage the company’s corporate website with timely updates 

Channel & Platform Management 

  • Oversee and optimize internal communication channels, including the company intranet, emails, and collaboration tools. 
  • Proactively manage Foot Locker’s LinkedIn 
  • Identify and implement new technologies to enhance employee engagement and internal communications. 
  • Use data-driven insights to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts and continuously improve strategies. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field. 
  • 8+ years of experience in internal communications or employee engagement 
  • Proven experience in developing and executing engagement and communication strategies for large, dynamic organizations (preferably global.) 
  • Strong storytelling, writing, and content development skills with the ability to adapt messaging for diverse employee audiences. 
  • Experience working closely with senior executives and HR leaders to drive culture and engagement initiatives. 
  • Strong leadership skills with innate ability to lead and coach  
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and employee engagement platforms. 
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment. 

Benefits

The annual base salary range is $144000 - $166000 / year. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary for this position. This role is also eligible to receive short term incentives that align with individual and company performance. Salary will be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Salary is one component of the Foot Locker, Inc. total compensation package, which includes the below.
