WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
The Apparel & Accessories Product Risk Engineering (PRE) team is part of the Global Development & Materials, Global Product Standards organization. The quality and performance of Nike products are pivotal to Nike’s competitive advantage, and the PRE team ensures athlete* satisfaction through a focus on Standards, Risk Assessment, Testing, and Manufacturing Preparation.
PRE works directly with Design, Development, and other product creation stakeholders to prevent design and manufacturing risks prior to buy ready. While assessing and mitigating risk, PRE also helps to define and update product standards that inform the performance of Nike’s apparel and accessories. PRE is also seen as a subject matter expert as product moves from concept to bulk production, providing insights and requirements to ensure quality at scale.
PRE is part of the Global Development & Materials – Apparel & Accessories function at Nike and is uniquely positioned to collaborate and influence Stakeholders across the supply chain including Design, Development, Merchandising, Partner Management, and Manufacturing Partners.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for a Senior Product Risk Engineer to work on the Apparel & Accessories PRE team. This role uses fundamental engineering skills and knowledge of engineering tools to enable data-driven decision making and draws on an understanding of manufacturing and product creation environments, including staying abreast of innovation and advancements related to manufacturing.
A successful candidate is metrics-oriented with strong analytical skills and the ability to leverage models and synthesize data to assess and manage risk. The candidate needs to have the ability to influence stakeholders through clear and straightforward communication, and has experience in successfully initiating, planning, implementing, and closing a project/process within scope, budget, and time constraints.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, experience or training
- A minimum of 5 years directly relevant work experience
- Experience with statistics, design of experiment (DOE), and quality management systems required
- Material, Apparel and / or Equipment creation or manufacturing knowledge preferred
- Product Safety experience a plus
- Strong problem solving, organization, and communication skills
- Strong project management experience preferred
- Strong influencing and negotiating skills
- Ability to effectively conduct presentations to small and large audiences
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities at once
- Self-motivated
- Strategic thinker
- Proficiency with MS Office programs, experience with Smartsheets a plus
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (domestic and international)
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
As a Senior Product Risk Engineer, you will support Nike Global Development & Materials – Apparel & Accessories to ensure that product meets or exceeds customer, consumer, and government regulations through the application of prevention-based quality engineering processes and tools. You will provide technical support for product engine groups by implementing PRE procedures and tools. You will provide formal, quantitative feedback to both internal Nike and external organizations in order to influence business decisions.
Quality is a team sport and requires a collective focus. These 4 common accountabilities provide the framework for day-to-day activities:
- Standards: Develop & deploy product performance specifications based on Nike expectations
- Nike Risk Assessment: Determine failure potential and act pre-emptively to reduce and resolve quality issues
- Testing: Validate product requirements to qualify end-use application
Manufacturing Preparation: Leverage preventative tools to eliminate manufacturing quality challenges before they happen
