Anthropologie extends initiative with Blue Jeans Go Green Credits: Anthropologie

Lifestyle retailer Anthropologie has teamed up with Cotton Incorporated's Blue Jeans Go Green program to launch a new denim recycling initiative.

From February 5 onwards, Anthropologie customers are invited to bring their used denim to any of Anthropologie's US retail locations. All old denim will then be recycled into insulating material that will be used across various applications of Cotton Incorporated's consumer sustainability program.

To further highlight their ongoing commitment to reducing and recycling, Anthropologie has set a goal to divert 10 tons of denim by the end of 2025.

The recycling initiative is In line with Anthropologie's A Greater Good platform, which highlights the retailer's aim of being a driver for positive change through its products and people and working to become more environmentally responsible and socially conscious.

"At Anthropologie, we are committed to creating a more sustainable future and being mindful of our environmental impact on the planet across our business operations," said Elizabeth Preis, Anthropologie group's global chief marketing officer, in a statement.

"We are thrilled to be growing our participation with Cotton's Blue Jeans Go Green program and to bring our incredibly loyal community along to join in our sustainability efforts. I am confident that through this relationship, we will grow Anthropologie's denim circularity initiative, support waste reduction, and reduce our overall environmental impact."

The initiative marks the consecutive year Anthropologie has taken part in the Blue Jeans Go Green program, which will now be implemented as a year-round, always-open initiative. All Anthropologie customers are invited to recycle any type of denim apparel item, as long as it consists of 90 percent cotton or greater throughout the year.

"We are thrilled that cotton circularity and the Blue Jeans Go Green program is a part of Anthropologie's continued sustainability journey," commented Andrea Samber, director of consumer marketing and brand partnerships for Cotton Incorporated, in a statement.

"Anthropologie's commitment to drive action via a circular model aligns with Cotton's core values and efforts in protecting our planet so that it can flourish by keeping denim waste out of landfills."

Created in 2006, the Blue Jeans Go Green denim recycling program was introduced by Cotton Incorporated as a call to action to reduce textile waste and turn old denim into something new. The initiative aims to foster eco-friendly habits through awareness of cotton's inherent cycle by including the public and communities in upcycling unused denim, thereby reducing landfill waste.
