The annual Costume Institute Gala was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on Monday. Hosted by Vogue editor Anna Wintourr and co-chaired by Jennifer Lawrence, the event marked the launch of the Met's new exhibition China: Through the Looking Glass.

In collaboration with the Department of Asian Art, the exhibition explores the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion, and how China has fuelled the fashionable imagination for centuries. High fashion will be juxtaposed with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains, and other art, including films, to reveal enchanting reflections of Chinese imagery.

The Costume Institute Gala is a major fundraising benefit that serves as an opening celebration for the Institute's annual fashion exhibit. Each year's event celebrates the theme of that year's Costume Institute exhibition, and the exhibition sets the tone for the formal dress of the night since guest are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit

The 25,000 dollar ticket price didn't keep the fashion luminaries at bay, which saw plenty of British designers feature on the red carpet. Below a list of who-wore-what:

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Roland Mouret, Alexa Chung in Erdem, FKA Twigs in Christopher Kane, Hailey Baldwin in Topshop, Cara Delevigne in Stella McCartney, Naomi Campbell in Burberry, Solange Knowles in Giles Deacon, Chloe Sevigny in J.W. Anderson, and Bee Schaffer in Alexander McQueen.

China: Through the Looking Glass opens to the public this Friday until August 16th.
