Last week, the CFDA announced that they are partnering with the Weinstein Co. to film this year's CFDA awards. In the last few days, there have been a lot of rumors over whether the CFDA would take the approach of doing it as a live broadcast, basically giving it similar treatment to something like the Grammys or Oscars. CFDA chairman Diane von Furstenburg scaled back on any rhetoric revolving the potential of a live broadcast in an interview with WWD just shortly after a press release was put out.

A live television broadcast has not been decided yet, but it isn't out of the cards. Von Furstenburg did say that they will be attempting to bring the awards ceremony to a large audience. She noted that the designers involved with the CFDA did want to see an awards ceremony that more closely resembled the Golden Globes and awards shows of the like.

This year, the CFDA has moved the awards show from Alice Tully Hall to Hammerstein ballroom so it would be easier to do things like eat and drink.

The idea to film this year's CFDA awards came about when von Furstenburg was talking to Georgina Chapman of Marchesa who sits on the CFDA board, who suggested that they arrange something with Harvey Weinstein. Weinstein coincidentally happens to be Chapman's husband too.

CFDA to potentially televise their awards show

The decision regarding televising the awards was made by the CFDA"s board which includes designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, and Vera Wang.

Patrick Reardon of the Weinstein Co. and CFDA president Steven Kolb will be executive producing the documentary. Sergio Alfaro of Eclipse Television will be producing the broadcast, and KCD will be producing the event.

Prices to attend the award show are 20,000 dollars for two Platinum tickets, 36,000 for four platinum tickets, and 70,000 dollars for a complete table of ten platinum tickets. Any ticket holder who doesn't wish to be filmed or photographed will have to vacate the area immediately.
