There’s this joke that you aren’t a real designer nowadays unless your label is doing tech gear. Clearly that joke is being taken very seriously by many, because designer Cynthia Vincent has just become the latest to enter the tech gear realm with an exclusive collection for Best Buy. Vincent has the privilege of actually being hand-picked by the CFDA for the second iteration of the fashion-meets-tech program.

The first iteration of fashion-meets-tech debuted last year with collections designed by Nanette Lepore, Anna Sui, and Isaac Mizrahi. The tech-collaboration Vincent is planning will include designs directly sourced from her archives. While Vincent is excited because she sees a tech collaboration as a “natural extension of handbags,” Best Buy is excited because they are hoping it will get more female customers in their store.

The tech giant has traditionally skewed more male throughout its tenure, but, it’s no secret that women are ones who hold the consumer power. With women’s purchasing power increasing as they move into higher positions of power and more women being college educated than ever if you aren’t bringing in the female demographic your company is making a huge mistake. Best Buy is smart, however.

“Cynthia Vincent, Nanette Lepore, Isaac Mizrahi—these are all names that women know and love, and we know how important technology accessories are for our customers,” Jason Bonfig, Best Buy ‘s senior category officer said to Women’s Wear Daily. To promote the product Best Buy has also partnered with Vincent for a brunch at the upcoming Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival where the product will be revealed. What better place than to reveal a tech savvy and fashionable product than at an event full of artsy millennials?

While Vincent’s product launched yesterday on bestbuy.com, it won’t be available in stores until April 12th. Price ranges for the items are between 30 dollars and 50 dollars, with items including cases for tablets, smartphones, and laptops. While Vincent has not made any statements about how her future with tech gear will play out she has pointed out that both Isaac Mizrahi and Nanette Lepore are doing collaborations for a second time, so, more Cynthia Vincent tech-gear could be on the horizon.
