After a high profile appointment and subsequent exit at Marc by Marc Jacobs, the former creative directors Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier merged together to start their own fashion label, Hillier Bartley.

As the first collection hits stores this autumn, the London-based duo focussed on Savile Row fabrics, classic and refined tailoring, with a sense of insoucience. Bartley quotes a passage from Lucien Freud's biography as inspiration: “I love that thing of people who wear very good clothes carelessly. I came across a page that describes him as walking a line between vanity and vagrancy."

According to British Vogue online, the label was launched with their own financial investment meaning they get to speak directly to their customer without the machinery of a corporation around them.

Hillier stated she can create accessories without compromise of construction and cost, but be authentic in her design vision.

The collection will be available online at Matchesfashion.com and retails from 365 pounds for high waisted denim to 2,000 pounds for a tassle-tie coat.

Star fashion photographer David Sims, who happens to be Bartley's partner, photographed the look book and first released images.
