London - Following in the footsteps of fellow fashion houses Prada and Chanel, French luxury house Hermès tanning sector, known as Hermès Cuirs Précieux, has acquired one its long standing partners "Tanneries du Puy."

The tannery, which is located in Chadrac, is globally recognised for its expertise in working with calf leather and notably a type of leather known as the "box," which is one of Hermès' iconic materials. According to a press release sent out by Hermès the acquisition will save more than one hundred jobs in the French Auvergne-Rhône Alps region. The acquisition is also said to be part of the Hermès group strategy to preserve its workers unique know-how, and to secure its supply chain.

The acquisition comes not long after animals right organization PETA called the French fashion house out for sourcing its exotic alligator skins from farms where the animals where subject to extreme cruel conditions and abuse.
