Moncler is set to launch a new retrospective across the city of New York, culminating at Vanderbilt Hall at the Grand Central Terminal, in honor of its 15-plus-year cultural bond with the city as it opens its largest flagship store to date.
Named ‘New York in Moncler,’ the retrospective runs from September 9th through to the 13th, coinciding with New York Fashion Week. The open-air exhibition includes large-scale photographs installed in communal spaces that trace the history of the luxury brand and the city, focusing on the people, the locations and the shows that formed Moncler’s New York identity.
Grand Central Terminal to host Moncler's 'New York in Moncler' exhibition
Moncler’s connection to New York dates back to 2010, when Moncler Grenoble hosted a New York Fashion Week presentation at Chelsea Piers, where approximately 100 models dressed in its alpine-inspired designs scaled a scaffold structure. Other photographs on display show the 140 dancers performing for commuters in Grand Central's Main Concourse in 2011, and skaters circling Wollman Rink to a live orchestra in 2012.
Other key moments showcase some of New York’s most iconic locations, such as Annie Leibovitz's 2014 campaign image, which placed model Simon Howell atop the Chrysler Building, treating the skyscraper as a summit. The exhibition also focuses on the brand’s connection to New York’s creative community, such as its 2015 Art For Love project, curated by Fabien Baron in support of amfAR, during which Moncler gave 32 photographers the Maya jacket to reinterpret.
More recent photographs on display highlight celebrity campaigns, like the 2025 “Warmer Together” project, where Robert De Niro and Al Pacino were shot on a New York rooftop, and Monduck and Montgomery, the respective mascots of the two brands from the second LoveFrom collaboration, pictured in Central Park in 2026.
The retrospective opens alongside a new short film released on September 3. Narrated by Alicia Keys, described as “a close friend of the brand and iconic New Yorker”, the film shows a model wearing Moncler’s Maya jacket as she moves across the city, serving as a visual expression of Moncler’s relationship to the city and how it has evolved over the years.
“New York in Moncler” is set to be on display across New York and inside Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal from September 9 to 13. The retrospective opening comes as Moncler is set to open its largest flagship store in the world on Fifth Avenue during NYFW.
Spanning more than 2,200 square meters across two floors of the General Motors Building at 767 Fifth Avenue, the flagship store opening is a clear reflection of Moncler’s expansion ambitions in the US, a market it considers "underpenetrated" and one of its biggest remaining opportunities.
The flagship opening also reflects the brand's wider shift towards direct-to-consumer retail, where its own stores now drive the majority of sales. Revenues in the Americas rose 7 percent at constant exchange rates in the first quarter of 2026, though they slipped 2 percent in reported terms, a gap driven by currency rather than demand.
“This new flagship represents a significant milestone for Moncler and marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in New York City,” chairman Remo Ruffini told WWD earlier this year. “Opening our biggest store worldwide here is not just expanding our presence; it represents a pivotal step toward unlocking the full potential of our brand and reinforcing our commitment to the US market.”
