Japanese outfitter Nanamica is to open its first store outside of Japan in New York on August 23rd.

Located at 125 Wooster street in SoHo, the store is part of Nanamica’s international expansion plan to open global hubs.

Designed by Japanese architect Taichi Kuman, the space is reminiscent of a beach house and meant to “express the free and relaxed feelings of the seaside,” while retaining its Japanese aesthetic sensibilities, the company said in a statement.

The store will also house Nanamica’s collaboration with outdoor brand The North Face’s Purple Label.

Nanamica said it hopes its New York store will set a precedent for other boutique locations, mixing high-level fashion and functionality, and that its message “one ocean, all lands,” will resonate amongst its new local customers.
