A ban on the sale of fur clothing might be coming to New York sooner rather than later. The city council is in the beginning stages of presenting a bill that would keep anyone from selling any fur apparel, according to WWD. The proposal of the bill was just presented during a New York City council meeting just last week.

New York City is following the footsteps of its west coast counterparts San Francisco and Los Angeles. San Francisco has already banned the sale of fur along with smaller cities such as West Hollywood and Berkeley. Meanwhile, Los Angeles currently has a ban on selling new fur. However, the southern California city has a proposal to ban all fur sales, which has moved forward in the legislative process.

As these major cities continue to push forward with the ban on fur, they indicate the future of the fashion industry, one that proves just how reactive the industry can be to the current political and social climates of today.
