London - US label Opening Ceremony has teamed up with UMD by Unmade to launch a customisable capsule collection exclusively for Farfetch.

The collaboration allows customers to create their own unique versions of classic Opening Ceremony styles, such as adding trompe l’oeil knit motifs to a unisex crew sweater, beanie, a women’s elliptical sweater and a shrug. In addition, Opening Ceremony has also designed an original, varsity-inspired monogram alphabet for the collection, so customers can add their own personalised initials to their sweaters.

Each piece will be a one-of-a-kind designer piece, made to order with a lead time of around four weeks from order to delivery, and all designs will be made from Merino wool and produced at Johnstons of Elgin’s 200-year-old mill in the Scottish Borders.

This isn’t the first time that London-based start-up UMD (Uniquely Made Design), which has revolutionised knitwear by employing cutting edge technology to produce one-off pieces, has collaborated with a brand, it has previously worked with Hiut Denim and Christopher Raeburn.

Opening Ceremony founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, said: “We are huge supporters of companies that use technologies in interesting ways to elevate fashion, and when we learnt about Unmade, we felt an instant connection. We love what they do and are excited to collaborate with these signature OC designs.”

Hal Watts, chief executive at Unmade added: “Unmade is building the next level of customisation where colours can be changed, patterns can be broken apart and monograms are seamlessly integrated into the very fabric of each piece of bespoke knitwear. Once the customer makes their choice, this is automatically sent to industrial machines in a 200-year-old factory.

“This collaboration represents an exciting moment for Unmade as we launch our UMD label, which reflects our desire for constant innovation and growing digital design expertise. UMD is the next step in our journey as we work with some of the world’s leading brands to create one-off pieces of knitwear for each and every customer and reimagine bespoke for the modern era.”

Farfetch buying and merchandising director Candice Fragis said: “The collaboration between Opening Ceremony and Unmade offers a completely unique shopping experience within our dynamic platform. This is more than just playing designer - it gives our global customer the opportunity to create something one-of-a-kind and totally bespoke to accommodate their style and needs. We are excited to offer this merge of luxury and innovation to our global online customer.”

Prices will range from 55 to 415 pounds depending on selected design.
