East Asian designers are working harder than ever to make a name and presence for themselves in America. In the tough market of American contemporary brands, that is never easy though.

However, one such designer who has become a longtime regular of New York Fashion Week, continues to impress the fashion crowd again and again: Son Jung Wan.

For her spring/summer 2017 collection, Wan took it retro and rewinded back to the 70s. Signature looks included patent leather jumpsuits, metallics, and houndstooth. The collection was practically out of this world, and really emphasized Wan's abilities to play with different materials.

She always makes regular habit of pairing different materials, like patent leather with cotton, similar to how for her fall/winter show earlier this year she mixed fur with leathers. She not only has a good eye for aesthetic, but she is also a skilled technician. These things combined is what helps make her works so unique and original.

It was a rainbow of color at Wan's show, with everything from red, green, and yellow coming together. She also had appliqués as well, showing that she was on trend with this season.

The designer, who is incredibly popular in Korea, has regularly been showing at New York Fashion Week, and she couldn't choose a better time to try and grow her presence. Korean street style and Asian influences are becoming increasingly more popular in other major global fashion markets, and the industry is taking notice.

Wan's a designer who shines, and she has staying power. She could be one to have a major impact in the American markets.

The international Fashion Week season for women's ready-to-wear kicks off in the month of September, with all eyes set on New York, Paris, London and Milan for next seasons latest trends. For all the women's wear catwalk season must reads, click here.
