Scott Schuman, the photographer otherwise known as The Sartorialist, who has gained a major social media following, has announced he will be doing a limited-edition collaboration with with Italian men's label Sutor Mantelllassi. The dress style shoe will be debuting this week at Pitti Uomo. The collaboration didn't just come out of left field, however.

Schuman was inspired to make the shoe by Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni, who has had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for 50 years now, and was once a major fan of Sutor Mantellassi's shoes. He actually wore a pair the day he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. While Mastroianni always presented himself at his most dapper, Schuman didn't want the shoe to be too dressy, and gave it a Goodyear-welted commando sole and pebble-grained leather.

Schuman sketched the design for the shoe when he was in Milan in February for the women's shows in collaboration with the team led by Gianluca Pollastrelli. In an interview with Footwear News, Schuman elaborated on his design process, stating, "I had the basic concept in mind. I wanted a dichotomy of refined shape with an element of ruggedness. I had always thought about what a functional thing a shoe has to be, but also be aesthetically pleasing. Certain small details communicate certain things to people. It was about deciding on the language of design to create the most beautiful shoe." While Schuman's potential to work with the company going forward will depend on how well the shoe sells, it doesn't look like he'll be bored anytime soon.

The photographer already has a third book coming out in September, where its his take on romantic photographs. His new book will showcase the clothes telling you who a person might be. While has had several collaborations in the past, this one certainly seems to be a stand out.
