Donna Karan has been one of biggest forces in the American fashion scene for over 25 years now. She's easily a household name, and her lines Donna Karan New York and DKNY are some of the most wanted fashion brands in America. Well, it seems like the latter mentioned fashion label could be welcoming a new creative director. Women's Wear Daily has reported that Donna Karan CEO Caroline Brown is looking for a fresh new face to head up DKNY.
Rumor has it that Public School's Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, Prabal Gurung, and Andrea Lieberman are all being looked at as potential candidates to take over the design direction of DKNY. Although, when asked if he was considering the position, Dao-Yi Chow of Public School told Women's Wear Daily, "not at this moment." While Donna Karan has always been the one taking the bow at the end of fashion, DKNY has actually been designed by Executive Vice President of Design Jane Chung since it was created.
DKNY seeking fresh new designer to shake things up
DKNY has yet to comment on any inquiries regarding their possible hiring of a new creative director. Rumor's have been circling around the fashion community that Karan would be stepping down from DKNY for a few month's now, but, in an interview with CBS News after fashion week she said that she was "too energized" to step down. The label, which is owned by luxury fashion conglomerate Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH), was created by Donna Karan to appeal to a younger fan-base, and has a more accessible price point than Donna Karan New York.
In recent efforts to appeal to their younger demographic DKNY has brought on campaign stars like Cara Delevingne and Rita Ora, they are also known for casting models that fall outside of the scope of the traditional 5'7'' to 5'10'' size zero girl. LVMH is known for replacing designers at their brands when they feel one of them needs a shakeup, so, it's not that much of a surprise that they are seeking a fresh young designer for their brand. This could mean a major career boost fora young new designer, so, it be quite a moment in fashion history when DKNY's new creative director is announced.
