FashionUnited's Brazilian job board lists fashion vacancies across the country, from design, buying and e-commerce roles in São Paulo to knitwear, denim and lingerie jobs in Santa Catarina, Ceará, Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro. Brazil runs one of the largest fashion industries in the world, and it is built almost entirely around its own domestic market: the country is self-sufficient in cotton, produces roughly five billion garments a year, and is a global reference point for beachwear, denim and homewear.

What fashion jobs are in demand in Brazil?
Brazil's fashion industry serves its own 200-million-strong consumer market rather than exporting at scale, so hiring concentrates in domestic retail, brand and product roles:
- Retail & e-commerce: store manager, buyer, visual merchandising, marketplace and performance-marketing roles at Brazil's large chains.
- Design & product development: stylists and product developers, particularly in beachwear, denim, activewear and lingerie.
- Production & merchandising: merchandiser, planner, production supervisor and pattern maker (modelista) roles at manufacturers.
- Technical & denim: wash and finishing technicians in the Northeast and knitwear specialists in Santa Catarina.
- Sourcing & supply chain: planning, quality and logistics roles.
- Sustainability: reporting, traceability and circularity, a growing area as retailers respond to consumer and regulatory pressure.

Why Brazil hires
Brazil's advantage is the scale of its home market. According to the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (ABIT), the sector spans more than 25,000 formal companies and employs around 1.3 million people, making it one of the country's largest industrial employers, behind only food, with a workforce that is predominantly women. ABIT ranks Brazil as the world's fourth-largest textile and fourth-largest apparel industry.
Unlike export-led suppliers such as Turkey or Bangladesh, Brazil's industry mostly serves Brazilians. Hiring therefore concentrates in domestic retail, brand, product development and e-commerce rather than export sales. That internal market is also under pressure: imports, led by China and by fast-fashion platforms such as Shein, have grown quickly and the sector now runs a trade deficit. This is pushing local companies to compete on speed, design and quick replenishment rather than price, and the roles that are growing sit in the higher-value functions: design and product development, e-commerce and performance marketing, planning and merchandising, and sustainability.
Can you get a fashion job in Brazil?
There are two kinds of jobs here, with two different routes in:
-
Portuguese-speaking, floor- and store-based roles. Most retail, commercial and factory-side jobs run in Portuguese, the working language across the industry. Each posting on the board states the language requirement, so you can filter as you go.
-
Head-office, design and international-brand roles. São Paulo's larger retail groups, design studios and buying teams are more likely to hire bilingual staff, especially for e-commerce, sourcing and sustainability functions. Applying from abroad? You'll need a work visa, which the employer sponsors after making you an offer.
