What fashion jobs are in demand in Denmark?
Danish fashion makes almost nothing at home and sells most of what it designs abroad, so openings cluster around the head-office functions that run an international brand:
- Design & product development: designers, pattern designers, graphic designers for prints and fit assistants.
- Buying & merchandising: buyers, creative buyers, retail buying assistants and collection merchandisers planning ranges for several countries at once.
- Sourcing & sustainability: supplier management, materials, traceability and documentation for the EU's digital product passport and due diligence rules.
- Brand marketing & content: copywriters, social media, CRM and performance marketing roles writing for European audiences.
- Commercial & strategy: pricing, wholesale, key-account and export sales roles for markets such as Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands.
- E-commerce: web merchandising, online marketing and marketplace roles as Danish brands sell direct across Europe.
- Retail: sales assistants, client advisors and store managers, plus Denmark's two-year retail apprenticeships (butikselev).
Where are the fashion jobs in Denmark?
Copenhagen has the most vacancies: brand head offices, design studios, showrooms and the city's flagship stores cluster there. Central Jutland is the country's second fashion centre: the old textile belt around Brande, Herning and Ikast is now home to the head offices of Bestseller and DK Company. Who is hiring in fashion in Denmark?
International brands recruit mainly for their Danish stores. Employers recruiting through the board include Dior, Gina Tricot, Skechers, Carhartt WIP, A.P.C., Hugo Boss, and Stone Island, for sales associate, client advisor and store management roles.
The bigger story is Danish brands hiring at home. Bestseller recruits in Brande across design, buying, marketing and e-commerce for labels including ONLY, JACK & JONES, SELECTED, PIECES and JDY, alongside its own store network. Pandora hires strategy, pricing and product roles at its Copenhagen headquarters, while Samsøe and Envii recruit there too. Ganni, DK Company, hummel and ECCO are also major Danish employers, and department stores Magasin and Illum hire for retail and buying. On the supply side, much of the work is sourcing and quality management for factories abroad, run from Danish head offices.

Why Denmark hires
Denmark's edge is brands, not factories. Fashion is the country's third-largest goods export, worth a record DKK 45.4 billion in 2025, about 5 percent of all Danish goods exports (Dansk Erhverv). With a small home market, Danish fashion companies earn almost 70 percent of their sales abroad (Dansk Mode & Textil), and Germany is the largest buyer.
Garment production left Denmark decades ago, and Central Jutland's textile towns did not lose their fashion industry; they turned it into head offices. What stayed is the work that defines a brand and gets it sold: design, buying, merchandising, sourcing management, marketing and export sales. These roles pay better and increasingly require international experience, because a collection designed in Brande or Copenhagen is planned, priced and marketed for dozens of countries at once.
Can you get a fashion job in Denmark?
There are two kinds of jobs here, with two different routes in:
- English-speaking, head-office roles. International brands headquartered in Copenhagen and Brande often work in English, and many of their design, marketing, pricing and e-commerce postings are written in English. These are the most accessible if your Danish is limited.
- Danish-speaking store and local roles. Most retail, customer service and domestic sales jobs need Danish.
Applying from abroad? EU and EEA citizens can work in Denmark without a permit; everyone else needs a residence and work permit from the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI), usually based on a job offer.
