What fashion jobs are in demand in France?

French fashion runs on brands, with Paris setting the creative and commercial direction and the remaining factories concentrated on high-end making, so openings cluster around:

  • Design & pattern-making: footwear designers, junior stylists and haute couture pattern makers (modélistes).
  • Product development & technical: technical designers, colour and materials managers and knitting technicians.
  • Buying & merchandising: buyers, assistant buyers, wholesale planners and global sales merchandisers.
  • Marketing, CRM & influence: EMEA CRM leads, performance media managers, PR and influence managers.
  • Wholesale & showroom: key account managers for department stores, wholesale managers and showroom sellers during fashion weeks.
  • Sustainability & compliance: traceability, environmental labelling and supplier data for France's AGEC anti-waste law and the EU's digital product passport.
  • Retail & client service: sales advisors (conseillers de vente), boutique managers and stock staff, with work-study contracts (alternance) and internships as common entry routes.

Where are the fashion jobs in France?

Paris has by far the most vacancies: luxury houses, brand head offices, showrooms, design studios and flagship boutiques on the Champs-Élysées, Rue Saint-Honoré and in the grands magasins all cluster there. Outside the capital, hiring follows head offices and production: Lille and Roubaix for northern retail groups, Marseille for brands such as Sessùn and American Vintage, and Troyes for knitwear. Who is hiring in fashion in France?

International brands run French and EMEA teams from Paris. Employers recruiting through the board include PVH, for wholesale planning, showroom and Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein store roles; Burberry and Prada, for showroom and boutique staff; Pandora, for PR and influence; and Swarovski, Dr. Martens, Deckers Brands and Columbia Sportswear, for sales advisors and customer care.

French brands do much of the hiring. Lacoste recruits in Paris for design, CRM and merchandising and in Troyes for knitwear development and production methods. Sessùn, American Vintage, SOEUR, The Kooples, Jules and Sud Express hire across design, product and stores, and Intersport for buying, logistics and retail nationwide. The luxury groups LVMH, Kering, Chanel and Hermès are the country's largest fashion employers, with leather goods and couture workshops across France.

Why France hires

France's edge is luxury. The fashion and luxury sector generates 154 billion euros in direct turnover and close to 600,000 jobs (Contrat stratégique de filière Mode et Luxe 2023–2027, French government). Leather goods, footwear, jewellery, perfume and cosmetics alone exported 50.6 billion euros in 2023, with a trade surplus of 22.5 billion (La Fabrique de l'industrie).

Mass garment production left France decades ago, and most mid-market brands now source from Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and Asia. What stayed is the work that defines a brand and justifies its price: creative direction, design, pattern-making, product development, merchandising and wholesale, plus the leather, couture and knitwear workshops luxury houses keep in France for quality and the "Made in France" label. That weights hiring towards skilled studio, office and craft roles.

Can you get a fashion job in France?

There are two kinds of jobs here, with two different routes in:

  • English-speaking international roles. EMEA marketing, CRM, wholesale and showroom roles at international brands and luxury groups in Paris often work in English, though French is usually still expected.
  • French-speaking studio, store and local roles. Most design, retail, production and domestic sales jobs need fluent French, and most postings on the board are written in French.

Applying from abroad? EU and EEA citizens can work in France without a permit; others need a work authorisation obtained by the employer or, for qualified roles, a Talent Passport residence permit (French Ministry of the Interior).
