What fashion jobs are in demand in Spain?
Spain is home to some of the world's largest fashion retailers and a dense store network, so openings cluster around retail and the head-office functions that run it:
- Retail & store management: sales assistants (dependientes), team managers and in-store trainers, with heavy Christmas hiring every autumn.
- Design & product: menswear and womenswear designers, design managers and garment technicians.
- Merchandising & planning: merchandise financial planners, business analysts and retail merchandising roles.
- Wholesale & showroom: wholesale sales for shop-in-shops, showroom sales and key accounts with department stores such as El Corte Inglés.
- Customer service & EMEA support: customer service representatives and bilingual wholesale support for markets such as Germany.
- Digital & marketing: digital product managers, CRO specialists and marketing managers.
- Circularity & textile recovery: textile sorting, collection and warehouse roles, driven by Spain's separate collection requirement for textile waste and upcoming EU extended producer responsibility rules.
Where are the fashion jobs in Spain?
Madrid has the most vacancies: brand head offices, the Iberian teams of international groups, showrooms and the country's biggest store network all cluster there. Barcelona is a close second, with its own head offices, wholesale teams and flagship stores on Passeig de Gràcia and Plaça de Catalunya. Pick your city and jump straight to its listings:

Why Spain hires
Spain's edge is retail. Fashion accounts for 2.9 percent of Spanish GDP and 3.6 percent of employment (Informe Económico de la Moda en España 2025, Modaes and Observatorio del Textil y la Moda). Fashion exports reached a record 35,029 million euros in 2025, 9 percent of all Spanish goods exports (Modaes, using ICEX classification).
Most garment production moved to Morocco, Portugal, Turkey and Asia long ago, and the old textile districts of Catalonia and Valencia shrank with it. What grew instead were the head offices that run global retail from Spain: design, buying, merchandising, logistics, e-commerce and store operations for Inditex, Mango, Tendam and the Iberian teams of international groups. That puts most skilled openings in Madrid and Barcelona offices.
Can you get a fashion job in Spain?
There are two kinds of jobs here, with two different routes in:
- English-speaking head-office and EMEA roles. International customer service, wholesale support, business analysis and marketing roles in Madrid and Barcelona often work in English, and some ask for German, French or Italian as well.
- Spanish-speaking store and local roles. Retail, showroom and most design and merchandising jobs need Spanish; in Barcelona, Catalan is an advantage in customer-facing roles.
Applying from abroad? EU and EEA citizens can work in Spain without a permit; everyone else needs a residence and work authorisation, usually requested by the employer, or a highly qualified professional permit for skilled roles (Spanish government).
