Which fashion jobs are available

Store and retail management roles make up more than four in five vacancies on the FashionUnited job boards, but the boards also list head office, design and production jobs. Vacancies are sorted into five categories:

  • Retail management and in-store: store manager, assistant store manager, sales associate, visual merchandiser and area manager roles at retailers and brand stores.
  • Product and supply chain: buyer, merchandiser, product developer, sourcing, quality and garment technologist roles.
  • Sales and marketing: sales manager, account manager, agent, e-commerce, CRM and brand marketing roles.
  • Design and creative: fashion designer, pattern maker, textile and print designer and creative director roles.
  • Internships: placements across all of the above, and one of the most accessible ways into the fashion industry.

The mix differs by country. Large consumer markets list mostly store and head office roles, while production countries lean towards sourcing, quality and product development.

Where the fashion jobs are

The biggest countries are the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, France and the United Kingdom, followed by Italy, Brazil, Canada and Australia. The US board alone carries about half of all vacancies, while Italy, Brazil, Canada and Australia each list more than 800.

The biggest cities are New York and London, followed by Hamburg, Amsterdam and Paris. These are the head office and flagship store cities of the fashion industry, where buying, e-commerce, marketing and design teams sit.

In Europe, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Antwerp, Zurich, Dublin, Manchester, Stockholm, Warsaw, Lisbon and Istanbul also list open positions. In the Americas, search Los Angeles, Toronto, Montreal and São Paulo, and in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Sydney, Melbourne and Dubai.

Beyond the large consumer markets, boards in production countries list the technical side of the industry. In Bangladesh, the FashionUnited job board carries merchandiser, garment technologist and responsible sourcing roles in Dhaka. In Vietnam it lists footwear quality and materials development roles in Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong, and in Sri Lanka garment technician roles in Colombo.

Who is hiring across borders

Many employers on the FashionUnited job boards recruit in several countries at once. Pandora, for example, lists store roles in Spain, Germany and Italy, while PVH, owner of Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, recruits merchandisers in Dhaka and garment technicians in Colombo. Puma recruits footwear quality and product testing staff in Ho Chi Minh City.

Bestseller, the Danish group behind Jack & Jones, Vero Moda and Only, describes itself on its company page as having more than 18,000 people in 38 countries. Other international brands with a company page on the FashionUnited job boards include Adidas, Hugo Boss, Burberry, Lacoste, Skechers and EssilorLuxottica.
