Hedi Slimane departure from French fashion house Saint Laurent brought the following question to mind: Why would Yves Saint Laurent let one of its most profitable creative directors leave? Or, to put it more bluntly: Why would Slimane leave Yves Saint Laurent? It would have to be to take on a bigger, or better role, industry insiders believe.
FashionUnited asked its readers in a poll which asked if they thought that Hedi Slimane is set to following in Raf Simons footsteps at Dior. 55 percent of you voted No, and 45 percent Yes.
Unfortunately, Slimane seems to be playing the waiting game when it comes to answering this burning question. The designer has yet to reveal any plans for his future after Yves Saint Laurent and if he intends to take up the creative helm elsewhere. In addition to pegging Slimane as the next big thing for Dior, several speculators also believe that he could be heading for Chanel.
In the meantime, the new creative director at maison Yves Saint Laurent has been announced in a joint-venture together with Kering and is none other than Belgian designer, Anthony Vaccarello.
