Outerwear brand Arc’teryx is finishing off 2020 by opening three new stores in New York. This will double their store count in New York City.

The three new locations with Arc’teryx Icon stores, part of a new concept that showcases curated selection of the brand’s best-sellers. The first of the three new stores opened on Bleecker Street in November. The other two stores set to open are in Flatiron and the Upper West Side. Arc’teryx other Downstate New York stores are an outlet in Woodbury and a store in SoHo.

Arc’teryx plans to open a total of five Icon stores in 2020. In addition to the three New York stores, there are also two set to open in the San Francisco Bay Area. The new Icon stores offer flexible delivery, click and collect, curbside pick-up, and a same-day courier service.

While it might seem insane to some to open more brick-and-mortar stores during a global pandemic, but the format of the Icon stores allows for very minimalist designs in very small square footage, which brings down operational costs and makes the construction and opening of stores very quick. The stores virtual integration and delivery operation format also helps reduce the number of people who need to physically shop in store.

“At our Icon stores, we are showcasing designs that have withstood the test of time and represent what Arc’teryx stands for: technical innovation, beautiful design, and high value,” said Megan Cheesbrough, vice president of retail excellence at Arc’teryx, in a statement. “The items we carry in store are versatile, simple, legendary, and timeless, and by simplifying the shopping experience, our guests — whether they’re experienced outdoor activity enthusiasts or new to the brand — can find their perfect product so they can get outside sooner and stay out longer.”
