Fashion stylist Zerina Akers has launched a new e-commerce marketplace called Black Owned Everything. Akers originally launched Black Owned Everything as a platform for Black businesses on Instagram, but has transitioned to a full-scale website offering a range of goods from brands including Glemaud, Sergio Hudson, and Aliette.

Akers made a name for herself as a stylist to top music artists including Beyoncé and Chloe and Halle. To date, over 14,000 businesses have contributed to the Black Owned Everything Instagram page.

Black Owned Everything is powered by a growing movement for Black fashion designers and business owners in the aftermath of the 2020 George Floyd protests. On Black Owned Everything Instagram’s page, part of the bio reads “For When The Trend is Over,” as many Black fashion industry professionals are concerned that Black creatives and designs are just being treated as a trend to capitalize on a political movement. Akers goal in launching Black Owned Everything was to solidify a place for Black owned businesses in the longterm so these designers just don’t turn into something for the moment.
