Holidays should be exactly that, a holiday. Workers should not be subject to planning their Thanksgiving festivities around customers desires for Black Friday and Thanksgiving specials. H&M has finally realized the problem with this, and for the first time in their history as a retail store in the United States, they will be closing their doors on Thanksgiving day.

In a statement, H&M said that they will be closing their doors to "give store employees the opportunity to spend the holiday with friends and family." H&M will now be joining other retail chains like Sam's Club and Costco who also close their doors on Thanksgiving day.

While H&M has decided to be more conscious about their employees lives, not everyone retail employee got so lucky. Target will open their doors at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving day, in addition to Toys R Us, Sears, and Macy's who have also announced they will be open on Thanksgiving day.

Hopefully for retail workers, H&M has started a trend and eventually other retail stores will follow suit. For now, at least H&M employees got lucky this year.
