Nordstrom is expanding its presence in California by opening not one, but two local service hubs.

Opening in San Diego and Danville, the smaller, service-focused retail units are in line with the Seattle-based department store group’s wider strategy of moving away from traditional retail to more experimental and online-driven models.

Set to open this summer, the first to open will be the 1,190 square foot service hub at 3725 Paseo Place, Carmel Valley (Local One Paseo), which will open on June 4. The latter, measuring 1,214 square feet, is located at 600 Sycamore Valley Road (Local Danville) and will open on June 18.

The opening of the second local service hub in Danville comes after Nordstrom shut down its flagship store in 2023, amidst a broader exit of retailers from the downtown area. In October 2025, Nordstrom opened a local service hub on Fillmore Street.

"We're excited to bring these new Nordstrom Local service hubs to San Diego and Danville, expanding our commitment to serving customers across California," said Fanya Chandler, president of Nordstrom stores, in a statement.

"Northern and Southern California represent two of our most significant markets, and these new locations reflect our continued focus on evolving alongside our customers. By extending our presence closer to where our customers live and work, we believe Nordstrom Locals will offer greater convenience, broader access to what they need, and a more personalized experience."

Nordstrom’s smaller local sites are designed to appeal to customers who prefer online shopping but still want in-person support. The service hubs are retail locations where customers can collect online orders, make returns, access alteration services on goods purchased from Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack, as well as other retailers, and donate used apparel and shoes to be reused or recycled. The local service locations do not have a retail offering from Nordstrom.

Once opened, the Nordstrom Local One Paseo and Nordstrom Local Danville will be the fifth and sixth Nordstrom service hubs operating in the state of California, joining locations in Brentwood, Newport Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Fillmore.
