Walmart’s wages are moving on up. The company said Thursday they plan to raise wages for over 560,000 U.S. workers by 1 dollar an hour. The news was reported by Reuters.

The news comes as workers being preparing for the holiday season, which marks the busiest time of the year for Walmart between Black Friday and Christmas. Like most retailers, Walmart is expected to have a holiday hiring frenzy to staff up their stores. However, retailers across the country are worried as a nationwide worker shortage due to COVID-19 could mean they will be short on employees.

Walmart has continued to increase wages bringing their U.S. average hourly wage to 16 dollars and 40 cents. This is above the mean hourly wage for salespeople of 14 dollars and 87 cents.
