Nordstrom is gearing up for a competitive holiday shopping season. The department store chain is introducing a new option to improve convenience for shoppers who choose to pick up items bought online. Between December 3 and December 24, Nordstrom shoppers will be able to pick up their item from a physical Nordstrom location before the store opens its doors.

Online shoppers will have the option to select “early bird” pick up, which would allow them to pick up their purchases as early as 8 am. As the store would be closed that early in the morning, staff members will bring items to the curb for easy pick up.

In addition to “early bird” options, Nordstrom will offer 24-hour curbside services at 23 locations between December 16 and 24. This will allow shoppers to pick up their purchases at any time of their choosing.

This comes soon after competitors such as Target and Amazon brought forth same-day delivery services, and retailers including Walmart, Kohl’s and Macy’s announced similar curbside pickup options for this holiday season.

“The retail landscape is evolving faster than ever before. In order to meet the needs of our customers, we need to adapt and find new ways to offer them the experiences and service they’re looking for,” Shea Jensen, Nordstrom's senior vice president of customer experience, to;d USA Today. "These efforts are really centered around the ideas of personalization, speed and convenience.''
