American brands can't follow the Gucci formula


In January we said au revoir to Raf Simons at Calvin Klein. It was a short, albeit brilliant tenure of two years and four collections. It was a bit surprising how quickly this Titanic sunk, but in an era constantly demanding newness, most trends come and go faster than people even change outfits. While brands like Gucci may have been able to keep luxury in its roots, products, and history from top to bottom, other brand can struggle, and when those customers buying Calvin Klein off the sales racks at Macy's aren't responding, Houston, you have a problem.

Interview: what Stitch Fix can teach us about the future of retail

Founded in 2011 by Katrina Lake, Stitch Fix is an online personal styling service in which a combination of algorithms and human stylists selects clothing, shoes and accessories from more than 1,000 brands for its clients. For many analysts, Stitch Fix is the fashion version of the business model that made companies like Netflix and Spotify successful. Nordstrom launches series of new men's retail concepts/h2>

It was a suitably gelid January morning that Nordstrom, under the direction of its new VP of Men’s Fashion, Sam Lobban, chose to reveal its debut concept of 2019: a 20-brand winter weather shop entitled Out Cold. Brands selected arrive from Scotland, Sweden, Canada, France, Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia, Italy and the U.S. Amid reports that menswear will outperform the global women’s sector by 2020, the market’s focus must be on innovation. To this end, Nordstrom’s New Concepts is designed as a platform where Lobban can test and spotlight the most exciting ideas across menswear.

PVH raises profit outlook, unveils restructuring plan for Calvin Klein

Steve Shiffman, Chief Executive Officer of Calvin Klein, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of PVH Corp. unveiled a series of strategic changes to the company in response to, what the company has called, rapidly evolving fashion and retail landscape. As a part of the strategy, Calvin Klein’s the 654 Madison Avenue store will be closing in spring 2019.

'Tired' Lagerfeld misses Chanel Paris couture show

Karl Lagerfeld pulled out of two Chanel Paris haute couture fashion shows in January, with the label announcing the veteran designer "was tired this morning". As the French capital was hit by a snowstorm, the 85-year-old creator left his studio head Virginie Viard to take the bow for him at the end of his spring-summer collection.

Debunking Sears' eleventh-hour rescue plan

Sears’ chairman Eddie Lampert reached a deal with Sears at the beginning of January to acquire 425 Sears stores and other assets for about 5.2 billion dollars after winning a bidding process. Lampert’s ESL Investments will put 850 million dollars into a new asset-based loan, according to a regulatory filing last from January, 18. Although the company shared their relief via corporate release as soon as the filing was made public, there are still doubts regarding this rescue plan.
